SCALE UP OR SCALE DOWN?
THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH TROUBLE SHOOTING IS THAT SOMETIMES TROUBLE SHOOTS BACK.
WE DEVELOP PROCESSES IN SCALE DOWN PERSPECTIVE BECAUSE WE KNOW HOW LARGE SCALE WORKS.
Usually, processes will be developed in small scale and then transferred to large scale. The expectation is that the process performs in a similar way in large scale as in small scale. It happens sometimes that large scale performance is worse than the small scale. Problem will be tried to solve through trouble shooting experiments under time pressure.
At FloraBio we act in the opposite way: Due to our long experience in large scale manufacturing we know what a process requires to run in largest scale stably and which technologies are suitable. Starting from that standpoint, we develop the processes in small scale. All steps which are not suitable or even risky in large scale are not in our spectrum. Thus, we develop processes in a scale down perspective and avoid surprises later by scale up. In that way we have not had a scale up problem in our process so far.
